Talipettu - pumpkin chapati or bread

In United States, the month of October is very famous for fall colors as well as for pumpkins . Wherever we go, whether shopping Mall or Countryside, one will find different types of colorful pumpkins. Shops are full of hundreds of products brought out on the theme of pumpkins. One can find pumpkin juice, pumpkin soup, pumpkin flavored coffee!, Pumpkin flavored body lotion, pumpkin flavoured candle!, you name it, you will find it there!.
Amazed by all these, I decided to prepare something out of pumpkin, so brought home a beautiful pumpkin!.
I called up my mom to know whether I can prepare some kind of dish out of this pumpkin. she mentioned so many recipes. I listed down all those and tried one by one. These dishes taste amazingly!. You gotta try it!.
I have posted pumpkin Idli also. Please have a look!

Ingredients:

  • Grated pumpkin - 1 cup
  • Rice flour - 2 1/2 cups
  • onions (finely chopped) - 1 cup
  • green chillies -2
  • fresh or frozen coconut powder - 1 cup
  • salt
  • oil
  • coriander leaves - 1/2 cup
Mix all the ingredients except oil in the vessel. Make a dough similar to the chapati dough. Add little water if the dough it not soft.

Make a round ball from the dough, (like chapati ball) and press on to the plantain leaf with  hand . I use aluminium foil
Place this on the pan. Spray little oil and cook both side.
Serve hot with coconut chutney.
TIP: Cook with the medium flame, other wise it will burn rather than cooking!

Variation:
You can use Whole wheat flour instead of rice flour. Use the grated pumpkin to make dough and make a regular chapati or roti
